Population

The Fort Worth-Arlington Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) population 1/ increased from 830,641 in 1970 to 2,195,399 in 2010. That was an increase of 164.3 percent.

The foreign-born (FB) population increased from 9,536 in 1970 to 306,121 in 2010. That was an increase of 3110.2 percent. The foreign-born share changed from 1.1 percent to 13.9 percent.

The share of the overall population that was native-born (NB) increased by 130.1 percent.

The first chart below shows the three population change factors for three periods adjusted for annual average amounts. In it, natural change (B-D) was the primary factor in population increase for all periods.

The second chart shows the same data but with an adjustment to reflect births to immigrants shifted to NIM. In it, NDM became the largest factor in population increase in the second period and NIM in the most recent period.
